Velma Morphis

Velma Morphis, 99, of Cabot died Tuesday, May 28, 2013. She was born Jan. 24, 1914 in Pasadena, Calif. to the late Willis E. and Margaret A. Claunch Phillips. Mrs. Morphis was a welder and machinist during World War II and later owned and operated three restaurants. Her family worked as cotton and fruit pickers and she was always busy, never afraid to tackle anything. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd A. Morphis; two daughters, Wilma Dean Gardner and Barbara Holmes; a granddaughter, Judith Lee Sharp; three grandsons, James Lee Davis, Stephen Gardner and Mark Gardner; two sisters, Opal Hammock and Ruth Harteise; and two brothers, Harold Phillips and Elmer Lee Phillips. Mrs. Morphis is survived by two daughters, Ruth Davis and Susan Sharp and her husband, Edward of Cabot; five grandchildren, Jason Sharp and his wife Courtney, Bryant Sharp and his wife, Nikki, Michael Davis and his wife, Katy, Cyndee Sarten and Debra Levy and her husband, Moise; 13 grandchildren, Tyler, Kadence and Triston Embry Sharp, Joshua and Matthew Davis, Christopher, Karen and Michael Sarten, Julie, Shawn, Michelle and Jason Levy and Kelly Garett, great-great granddaughter, Alyssa Garett; two sisters, Margaret Elsasser and Lillian Madden; niece, Leah Hammond; nephews, Robert and Von Phillips and other extended family. Funeral services are 2 p.m., Thursday, June 6, 2013 at Moore's Cabot Funeral Home, with Pastor Rob Davis officiating. Burial following at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
