Mr. Vernon "Gus" Anglin, 77, of Clinton, Arkansas he died after a long illness with his family with him Wednesday, May 29, 2013. He was born March 1, 1936 at Robinson, Arkansas to the late Howard and Mae (Morgan) Anglin. Gus was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a member of the Masonic Lodge and was a 32nd degree mason. Gus worked as a teen for his Dad at farmers produce later known as "Georges" in Springdale, Arkansas. In 1956 he married the love of his life Murlene Williams from Clinton, Arkansas. They moved to California, he went to Auctioneers School while working various construction jobs in Los Angeles, California. He moved to Clinton, Arkansas in the 70's to raise their two children Russell and Teressa in a better environment. Gus went to work as Deputy Sheriff for his father-in-law "Jake Williams" until Jake retired. Gus then ran for Sheriff of Van Buren County. Gus was Sheriff in 1980 when the Titan Missile Explosion happened at Damascus. He was responsible for helping evacuate people in its path even though officials said it was under control. He was Sheriff from 1977-1986. After retiring from the Sheriff's Department, he held many auctions for various people, with his wife and family as workers. He was a Sports fan and especially loved to see his son and grand kids play. He was preceded in death by his parents, the love of his life for 49 years Murlene (Williams) Anglin, and a sister, Betty Kilpatrick. He is survived by his children, Russell Gus Anglin and wife Janice of Sheridan, Ark.; Teressa "Abbie" McMahan and husband Scott of Green Forest, Ark; six grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren. two brothers, Robert Anglin of Siloam Springs, Ark.; and Jack Anglin of Springdale, Ark.; and many relatives and close friends. We will dearly miss our daddy, poppa, poppy seed, gramps, and grandpa. "It'll be OK Pappa" He loved his family and they loved him very much! Pallbearers: Jason Golden, Lance Smith, Jacob Harlen, John Hutchcraft, Johnny Ragsdale, and Keith McMahan. Honorary Pallbearers: Don Hensley, Jim Chandler, Sharlotte Ross, Joshua McMahan, Allisun Golden, Samantha Smith, Madisun Harlen, Christian Anglin, and Kathy Auction family. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday, June 6, 2013 and Funeral Service will be 11 a.m. Friday, June 7, 2013 at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home Chapel Clinton, Arkansas with Dane Anglin officiating.
