Mary Ruth (Garner) Marshall, 80, of Magness died Friday, June 28, 2013. She was born Aug. 6, 1932 in Independence County, the daughter of Ewing and Gracie (Moxley) Garner. Mrs. Marshall was courted by her husband, J.R. on his horse Mabel, and they were married in 1949. She worked at the International Shoe Factory prior to having her children, then devoted her life to being a homemaker. She was a devoted member of the Magness Missionary Baptist Church, and enjoyed gardening, canning, and exercising with friends at the Magness Community Center. Mrs. Marshall enjoyed going to the beauty shop for her nails and hair, and eating at Fred's Fish House. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, J.R. Marshall, and her parents. Mrs. Marshall is survived by one son, John R. Marshall and wife Sandy of Little Rock; one daughter, Debra Ruth Thomas and husband, Jim of Magness; one brother, Junior Garner and wife Helen of Magness; two sisters, Wilma Barrentine of Graceville, Fla. and Faye Rutledge of Newark; one grandson, Jason Kane Barnes; and three great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Barnes, Becka Barnes, and Olivia Gracie Barnes. Funeral services are 2 p.m. Monday, July 1, 2013 at Magness Missionary Baptist Church with interment in Blue Springs Cemetery. Friends may visit at the church, Monday, 1:30-service time. Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Jason Barnes, David Barnes, Tommy Garner, Jim Thomas, Junior Garner, Kendall Rutledge, Ben Baxter, and Greg Barrentine.
