Corinne (Cissye) Deaton passed away on Monday, March 4, 2013. She was born on December 29, 1919 in Curtis, Arkansas to Nathan and Odessa Bittle Thomas. Cissye graduated from Arkadelphia High School and attended Ouachita Baptist College, now OBU, before marrying Royal Deaton in 1938. Cissye was a member of First Baptist Church in Arkadelphia and was active in her Sunday school class and the Senior Choir, Young at Heart, until her health prevented her from attending! She was always active in Hospital Auxiliary, volunteering to help American Red Cross with blood drives and many other activities connected with the Auxiliary. She was active in the Mounted Patrol which her husband, Royal, established while Sheriff of Clark County, participating in many parades, rodeos, and trail rides. Cissye is survived by daughter, Janie Shirey of Little Rock, grandchildren, Robyn Cahalan (Brian) and Tiffany Knight (Mark) all of Little Rock, Katye Halliday (Phillip) of Curtis, Brett Currey (Rendi) of Arkadelphia and Michael Currey (Linda) of Benton, sister, Dorothy Robertson of Memphis, Tenn., and brother-in-law, Robert Deaton of Washington, Arkansas, 11 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Royal Deaton, daughter, Suzanne Currey, sons-in-law, Glen Currey and Doug Shirey, brother, Harvey Thomas and James Thomas. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Richwoods Cemetery with Dr. Lee McGlone officiating. The family would like to say a special thank you to all the caregivers who loved and cared for Cissye in her home for the past 4 years and to the staff at Valley Ranch Nursing & Rehab in Little Rock for the last 3 months.
