W. Frank Lambright

W. Frank Lambright age 86 of Little Rock died peacefully in his sleep on March 6, 2013. Frank was born in Ashdown on November 16, 1926 the son of the late Mary Lennie and Benjamin Franklin Lambright. Raised in Ashdown he graduated from Ashdown high school and entered the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville in 1944. He served in the United States Navy Air Corps in 1945 and 46 returning to the University in 1947 where he obtained his degree in education in 1949. He also played football for the Arkansas Razorbacks and lettered in 1947,48 and 1949. There he met and married Kathryn Wittenberg his wife of 58 years. Frank began his career as a teacher in Lake Village Arkansas where he taught classes, coached athletics and drove the school bus. Frank and Kathryn moved to Little Rock in 1951 where he entered the insurance business with Williams & Rosen. There he was elected treasurer in 1965 and president in 1976. The agency was sold to Atkins Insurance in 1979 where Frank served as senior vice president. He continued in that capacity at Marsh & McLennan after Atkins sold to Marsh in 1985. He retired in 1988 and spent his time traveling with his wife Kathryn, various community activities and duck hunting with his buddy Sam. Frank served on the Little Rock School Board in 1958. He was a member of the Little Rock School Board Biracial Committee from 1973-76. He served as president of the Pulaski County United Fund in 1962 and two years as chairman of the Budget Committee. He was President of the Episcopal Churchmen of Arkansas in 1962/63. He served as a board member of Little Rock UP. He served as chairman of Democrats for Rockefeller in 1966. Frank served on the War Memorial Stadium Commission as secretary and then as chairman for 10 years. He was treasurer of the Arkansas Orchestra Society in 1975-78. He was a board member of the Greater Little Rock Chamber of Commerce serving as chairman of the Good Government Committee in 1977 and Chairman of the Local Government committee in 1976/77. He addressed two committees of the Constitutional Convention in 1978. Frank served on the Board of Visitors of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock from 1976-1982 and was Chairman from 1980-1982. He was also a board member of Goodwill Industries and the Arkansas Repertory Theatre. Frank wrote numerous letters to the editor that appeared in local newspapers. He wrote and spoke about the finer points of Arkansas Real Property Tax laws. He could often be found on Riverfront drive painting railings or cutting grass along city park paths. He was most devoted to his wife Kathryn who he cared for until her death in 2008. The Lambright family would like to thank all of the people who have shown their genuine kindness and concern toward Frank especially during these last years of his life. Particular thanks go to his friends at Treetops and to the administration and Staff at the Roberts Building at Good Shepherd as well as the staff at Hospice Home Care. Survivors include his son, Bill Lambright and wife, Mary of Little Rock, his daughter, Nancy Smith and husband, David of Heber Springs and his granddaughter, Gracie Phillips of Cabot, Arkansas. A visitation will be held at Ruebel Funeral Home on Monday, March 11, 2013 from 5 to 7 p.m. followed by a memorial service Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral.
