Dortha E. Gruver, 89 of Fort Smith, Ark. passed away Saturday, March 9, 2013. She was born on December 29, 1923 in Paragould, Ark. to Clyde and Effie Armstrong Flippin. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church in Fort Smith. She taught Sunday School in Memphis, Tenn. for Colonial Baptist Church, was involved with jail ministries and was the President of the P.T.A. in Memphis In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond A. Gruver Sr. Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, March 14, 2013 at Fentress Mortuary Chapel with burial to follow at the Fort Smith National Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Fentress Mortuary in Fort Smith. She is survived by a daughter, Joan Hammer and her husband Gary, of Fort Smith; a son, Raymond A. Gruver, Jr. and his wife Joyce, of Little Rock; four grandchildren, Matthew Hammer of Fort Smith, Mark Hammer and his wife Megan, of Fort Smith, Trey Gruver and Carrie Gruver, both of Little Rock. Pallbearers will be Gary Hammer, Mark Hammer, Matthew Hammer, Trey Gruver and Karl Ray. Family will greet friends from 6:-7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
