Floy Groom of Little Rock, passed away Monday, March 11, 2013, in Little Rock. She was born July 4, 1917, in the Overcup Community to the late R.F. (Bob) and Susan Reddick Groom. She grew up in this community and graduated from Morrilton High School at the age of 16. After deciding her career would be in the field of education, she attended Central College and received her B.S. Degree from Arkansas State Teachers College. Her teaching career started in Arkansas and Missouri before she moved to Louisiana in 1949. She received her Master's Degree from Louisiana State University. She retired in Lake Charles, Louisiana, after 40 years of teaching. She was a charter member of the Sorority Alpha Delta Kappa. She spent her retirement years traveling and in numerous craft projects. The highlight of her travels was her trip to Athens and the Holy Land. She was also a very active member in the First Baptist Church of Lake Charles. Floy was preceded in death by her sisters, Bessie Bostian, Lee Faulkner, and Elon Shaw, and brothers, Carl Groom and Earl Groom. Survivors include nieces, Kathryn James of North Little Rock, Ruth Warner of Citrus Heights California, Betty Gaines of Sulphur, Louisiana, Orla Roberts of Plumerville, Jenwyl Miller of Morrilton, Meredith Groom of Morrilton, Becky Shepherd of Humphrey, Arkansas; nephews, Darrell Horton of Anchorage, Alaska, as well as numerous great-nieces and nephews, and a sister-in-law, Lena Groom of Morrilton, Arkansas. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday, March 15, 2013, at the Harris Funeral Home Chapel in Morrilton with Bro. Steve Shepherd officiating.
