Donald Hope Garner

Donald Hope Garner, age 95, of Benton, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at Saline Memorial Hospital Hospice House in Bryant. He was born September 14, 1917 in Fordyce, Arkansas to the late William Ed and Lulu Tolson Garner. Mr. Garner was a United States WWII Army Veteran. He was 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Benton Masonic Lodge #34, a member of the Benton Chapter 231 Order of the Eastern Star, and volunteered at Saline Memorial Auxiliary for twenty years. He was also a member of Highland Heights Baptist Church in Benton and had retired after forty years from the United States Soil Conservation. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Rickey Harris; two granddaughters, Shannon Harris and LeAnn Harris; one nephew, R.L. Smith, and his siblings, Alice Herman, Thelma Garner, Birdie Nelms, Dora Ramsy, and Pete Garner. Survivors include his wife, Virgie Garner of the home; one son, Bobby Harris of Benton; one daughter-in-law, Chrys Harris of Benton; three grandchildren, Heath Harris, Heather Reeves and husband, Tim, and Brian Harris and wife, Jessica; six great-grandchildren; two nieces, Margie Nance and Ann Daniels, and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m.. Thursday, March 28, 2013 at Roller-Ballard Funeral Home in Benton with Bro. Bob Stuckey and Bro. Brian Moore officiating. Interment will follow at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Wheeler Cemetery in Fordyce, Arkansas with Ted Daniels officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be Roger Lacy, Nuben Wray, Jimmy Mitchem, James Smallwood, Tommy Adams, and Jim Kane. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time on Thursday at the funeral home.
