Gertrude L. Ivankovics

Gertrude L. Ivankovics, 96, of South Bend, Indiana passed away Tuesday, April 30, 2013. She was born November 23, 1916, in South Bend to Roman & Lillian (Iwinski) Fischer. On May 25, 1940, Gertrude married John S. Ivankovics who preceded her in death on November 7, 1988. Gertrude is survived by her daughters, Mardell Johnston of Little Rock, Arkansas & Roberta Silvey of South Bend, Indiana; eight grandchildren; & eight great grandchildren. A sister, Alice Herma & brothers, Raymond & Stanley Fischer all preceded her in death. Gertrude was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, the Retiree Club, the Meribelle Club for over 60 years, and volunteered at St. Joseph Medical Center. She was a baker at LaSalle High School for over 17 years, retiring in 1982. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Friday, May 3, 2013, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, Indiana, where a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 4, 2013, in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to The Center for Hospice, St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, or Healthwin Specialized Care.
