Waylon Sheffield

Waylon Sheffield, age 82, of Bryant, passed away April 24, 2013. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Bryant, a past member of the Board of Directors of the Senior Citizens of Bryant and a Mason. Waylon served in the U.S. Army from 1947 to 1969. He was a highly decorated combat veteran, receiving the Bronze Star while serving in Vietnam. Waylon was a member of VFW Post No. 2256, serving as Adjutant for 13 years. He was a former Commander of the Military Order of the Cootie, an Honor Degree of the VFW and a past member of the VFW Honor Guard. Waylon was preceded in death by his parents, Adam and Ozelle Sheffield; two brothers, Alton and Boyce and two sisters, Rosa Brady and Ellon Kennedy. He is survived by his sister, Joyce Boswell, "The Queen Bee," and her husband, Ted, their children, Britt Boswell (Amanda), Kyle Boswell (Jon Mourot) and Blair Tompkins (Lee). Also surviving him are nephews, David Kennedy (Denise), Gibbs Kennedy (Carolyn), Randy Kennedy (Edna), Carroll Kennedy, Bill Brady (Sissie), Tom Sheffield (Linda), Eddie Sheffield (Anita) and Ray Sheffield; nieces, Melody Harvey (Herman), Denise Hostetter (Perry Young), Rhonda Sheffield, Dottie Hamilton (Jim), Janice Lock (Sonny) and Cindy Biggs (James Sydney). The family will receive visitors Monday, May 6, 2013 from 5-7 p.m. at Griffin Leggett Funeral Home, 10200 Hwy 5 N., Alexander, Ark. Memorial services will be held 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at First United Methodist Church, 518 N. Reynolds Road, Bryant, Ark. Inurnment with military honors will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Alexander with Reverend Hammett Evans officiating. Please share your memories of Waylon at www.griffinleggettforesthills.com.
