James E. Ramsey

James E. Ramsey, age 86, of Benton, entered Heaven's gates May 11, 2013 while surrounded by his family and loved ones at home. He was born March 6, 1927 in Bryant, Ark. to George and Esther Ramsey, the oldest of nine children. He was a member of Sharon Missionary Baptist Church in Benton. Jim retired from Safeway Stores in 1987 after 27 years of safe driving. Jim was known by many for the garden he tended for years. If not working in his garden, he could be found on a lake with a fishing pole, in a church pew or visiting on the front porch. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Bobby Joe. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 68 years, Hazel Ramsey of Benton; two sons, Euell Ramsey of Benton; Elbert Ramsey and daughter-in-law, Brenda of Benton; and daughter, Peggy Cox and son-in-law, Mike, of Greenwood; five grandchildren, Keri Ramsey, and Logan Ramsey of Little Rock; and their mother Dianna Walker, Ivy Grace and Rebecca Cox, of Greenwood; brothers, George Ramsey and wife Billye, Bill Ramsey and wife Claudine, Jack Ramsey and wife Mattie; sisters, Martha LeQuieu, Louise Houpt and husband Albert, Janie Penn, Carole Gaiser and husband Bernie. He is also survived by an aunt, many loving nephews and nieces, cousins and other close friends Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Ashby Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Sharon Missionary Baptist Church with burial at Sharon Cemetery. Ministers, will be Bro. Richard Hamlin, Bro. Albert Houpt and Bro. Laramie LeQuieu.
