Mildred Jeanne Dupuy Thompson

Mildred Jeanne Dupuy Thompson, age 86, of Pine Bluff, died Sunday, May 12, 2013. She was born September 18, 1926 to Lee Irwin Dupuy and Mildred Sarah Davis Dupuy in Memphis, Tennessee. She lived her first six years in Memphis, and moved to Marianna, Arkansas, where she completed high school. When both of her daughters were in college, she entered Memphis State University and graduated, with honors, in 1971 with a BS in Home Economics Education. She then attended the University of Tennesse-Knoxville on a full fellowship and earned a MS in Housing, Equipment, and Family Economics in 1973. She began work for the Cooperative Extension Service in Cross County in April of 1973. In July of 1973, she was appointed Home Economics Leader in St. Francis County. Jeanne was active in Professional home economics organizations, having served as secretary of the Arkansas Association of Extension Home Economists in 1983-1984. She began the Parenting is Primary program, a comprehensive parenting education program designed to teach development and learning processes need by children during the first three years of life. In June, 1990, the program received a grant from the Children's Trust Fund to hire a part-time Parent Enabler, enabling the program to reach more families. She received the AAEHE Foundation Award in 1988, the NAEHE Distinguished Service Award in 1990. While living in Forrest City, she served as vice-president of the Forrest City Musical Coterie in 1998 and was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd. A former member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Pine Bluff, she was a founding member of Grace Episcopal Church in 1959. Active in church life, she volunteered with the antique show, the Episcopal Church Women, and the English Tea. Jeanne has also served on the Vestry and the landscape committee. Jeanne was a "Homemaker Extraordinaire". She loved to cook and bake, especially cinnamon bread and bread for Communion at the church. After she retired, she loved to garden. As a child, she went to the beach at Biloxi, MS, and continued for the past 35 years to vacation at Orange Beach, Ala. with her family. Her survivors include two daughters, Marjie Hart (Bob) of Pine Bluff, and Jeanne Wilson (Larry of Memphis; grandchildren, Rob Hart (Melissa), Betsy Hart (Joe Meazle), Leigh Wilson Jacobs (Jana), and Lawrence Wilson (Rebekah), and a great-grandchild, Yogi Jacobs; also her extended family, Bonnie and Steve Smith of Mountain Home, Laura Hopson of Pine Bluff, their children and grandchildren; her caretaker, Tammy Epperson; and her Grace Church family. Funeral services will be Wednesday, 10:30 a.m. at Grace Episcopal Church with the Rev. Greg Fry officiating. A reception will follow the service in the church parish hall. Graveside services and committal will follow at 3:30 p.m. in Marianna Memorial Park at Marianna Arkansas. Arrangements are by Fuller Hale-South Funeral Services.
