Betty Jean Martindale

Betty Jean Martindale went to be with our Lord on May 15, 2013 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Hope, Arkansas to Stephen Leroy and Esther Murphy on July 24, 1931. She married the love of her life, Joseph L. Martindale, Sr. on July 17, 1953. Betty graduated from Arkansas State Teachers College in 1953 and started a long career teaching until retirement from Bauxite Public Schools after 19 years of service. She moved with her family to Benton in 1960 where she lived out the rest of her life. Mrs. Martindale was a member of First Baptist Church in Benton where she taught Sunday school for over 35 years. She was a group leader for Bible Study Fellowship for many years. She was also a faithful member of Alanon for 36 years. Mrs. Martindale is preceded in death by her mother and father, brother Steve Murphy, and sisters, Sarah Hensley, and Geraldine Stavenhagen. She leaves behind her husband, Dr. Joseph L. Martindale, sons, Dr. Joe Martindale, Jr. (Lanette), of Colorado, Dr. Mark Martindale (Cindy), daughter, Suzanne Cothran (Mike), six grandchildren, Heather, Chad, Garrett, and Alex Taylor, and Ashley and Christopher Martindale, all of Benton. Mrs. Betty Martindale's life was her God, her church, her husband, her children and her grandchildren. She was a great wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She will be greatly missed by all. Funeral services will be at First Baptist Church of Benton in the Worship Center on Friday, May 17, 2013 at 2 p.m. with interment to follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Alexander. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service from 1-2 p.m. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund, 211 S.
