Amelia Clark May

Amelia Clark May, 99, Hot Springs, formerly of Smackover, Arkansas, went to be with the Lord Saturday, May 18, 2013. She was born September 15, 1913 in Jennings, Louisiana to the late William Bass and Eula Jane (Hoffpauir) Clark. Ms. May was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Phillip N. May; three brothers and six sisters. She is survived by her son, Phillip Wayne May (Nancy) of Diana, Texas; daughters, Bobbie M. Cline (Dale) of Hot Springs, Arkansas and LeEtta Mahony (John Mahony, Sr.) of Nesbit, Mississippi; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. Ms. May was a longtime member of Joyce City Baptist Church in Smackover, Arkansas. During this time she served on many committees, worked with the Youth, Mission Organizations and taught Sunday School. For many years, she served as the Church Music Director. Working with the Liberty Baptist Association, Mrs. May held many positions of leadership including: Girl's Camp Director for Beech Springs Baptist Camp, G.A. Director, Associational W.M.U. Director, Camp Board Member, Missions Committee Member and Associational Mission Study Leader. She served in the Liberty Ministry Center and taught countless mission study books for the women of the Liberty Association. Ms. May dedicated her life to serving her Lord through serving others. The lives she has touched are too numerous to count. Mrs. May is the cornerstone for her family's spiritual foundation and inspired them to be who they are today. Her words of encouragement and her prayers are their most treasured gifts. Mrs. May has interwoven herself into their hearts and their character. Her presence will be missed but never forgotten. Memorials may be made to the Lottie Moon Mission Offering of First Baptist Church of Hot Springs; Joyce City Baptist Church of Smackover or Liberty Baptist Association. The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Kyle Roper, Dr. Shauna Lucas; the staff of Arkansas Hospice and a very special thank you to her two care-givers. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Caruth-Hale Funeral Home. A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Arlington Cemetery in El Dorado, Arkansas with Dr. John Mahony Sr. officiating. Pallbearers include Greg Waters, Phillip B. May, John Mahony, Jr., Devin Mahony, Ryan Waters, Colin Mahony and Jeff Ward. Honorary pallbearers include Lisa Waters, Amy Word, Sue Ward, Lee Waters, Caitlin Mahony, Addison, Elizabeth, Jack and Emerson Mahony and Lillian Word. Guests may register at www.caruth-hale.com.
