Mr. O.E. "Pete" Guinn, Jr. of Newport departed this life at his farm in Weldon at the age of 83. He was born June 10, 1929, in the Remmel Community of Newport, one of four children born to Oscar Earl Guinn, Sr. and Bessie (Koettel) Guinn. Mr. Guinn entered the investment business partnering with Mr. Bill Pratt forming the Northeast Arkansas Investment Company. In 1970, Mr. Guinn and Mr. Van E. Manning Jr. formed the McCartney, Manning, McDonald, and Guinn Insurance Agency. He was also a partner in Guinn and Monday Hardware, and was active in real estate and farming. He remained actively involved in managing real estate and working on his farm. Mr. Guinn's strong work ethic and business acumen made him a great asset to Jackson County. He was a member of the First Baptist Church at Newport. As an avid outdoorsman, he loved to fish and hunt. Mr. Guinn considered duck hunting to be the "Holy Grail" of hunting. Duck season was for duck hunting and pre-season and post-season were for preparing for the next duck season. He enjoyed going to auctions. He considered his farm to be his sanctuary. There was no place he would rather be. Mr. Guinn loved and enjoyed his life, however, he loved nothing more than his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Mr. Guinn's deep love of his family was evident to all who knew him. Many will miss this good man, but his absence will be felt most in his family circle. Mr. Guinn was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Anna Jean (Greer) Guinn on October 2, 2001, a son, William Greer Guinn, a grandson, Connor Guinn, and a sister, Terri O'Banion. He is survived by his children, Lynn Guinn Denton and husband, Billy, of Harrisburg, Bruce Alton Guinn, Sr., and wife, Tracy of Bella Vista, Arkansas, four grandchildren, Priscilla Guinn Jones and husband, Andrew, Nina Guinn Brownd and husband, Bo, Bruce Guinn Jr., and Dillon Guinn, two great-grandchildren, Aleigh Anna Brownd and John Jax Hutchinson. Also surviving are two sisters, Hattie Smith of Hoxie and Irene Monday of Newport, a special friend, Mary K. Henry of Heber Springs, and a lifetime of friends. Graveside services are 11 a.m. Thursday, May 23, 2013, at Walnut Grove Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. A. Timothy Hight officiating.
