Joseph Boeckmann Sr.

Mr. Joseph Boeckmann Sr., 73, of Conway, Ark. died peacefully on Saturday, May 25, 2013. Joseph was born Sept. 9, 1939 in Little Rock, Ark. to the late Clarence and Marie Boeckmann. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie (Bailey) and son, David Allan, his brother, Raymond Boeckmann, his sisters, Jean Marie Thrasher, Mary Agnes Hogan, and Marty Coffey. He was a retired Chief Petty Officer in the United States Navy (22 years) and did three tours in the Vietnam War receiving multiple medals and honors. He was also a distinguished professor of Computer Programming/Engineering. He was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus achieving an honorary lifetime membership. He was an entrepreneur with businesses in small engine repair and computer website design/repair. He was an active member of the Saint Boniface Catholic Church. He spent the last few years enjoying one of his great passions, square dancing. Joseph is survived by his children, Marie Duran of Conway; Joseph A. Boeckmann, Jr. and wife, Marta, of Picayune, Miss.; Anita Boeckmann of Conway; Karla Whisnant and husband, Stan of North Little Rock; and Melissa Garner and husband, Brett of King George, Va.; brother, Paul Boeckmann, sisters Anne Marie McAuley and Elizabeth Thomas; grandchildren, Patricia and Cynthia Duran, Beverly and Joey Boeckmann, Jordan and Jadyn Whisnant, Cassandra, Jacob, Jonah, Abigail, Bethany, and Benjamin Garner; one great-grandson Noah De Garay and many nieces and nephews that he loved very much. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Knights of Columbus Burse for young seminarians in his honor. Visitation will be held in the chapel of Griffin Leggett Funeral Home, 1751 Dave Ward Drive, Conway on Wednesday, May 29 at 6 p.m. with Rosary at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m., Thursday, May 30, at Saint Boniface Catholic Church, New Dixie.
