Harvey Crowley Couch, III, retired Professor of Law at Tulane University, died Nov. 7, 2013. He passed peacefully at home, surrounded by family after a brief battle with cancer. He had been a resident of New Orleans since 1967 when he began his tenure at Tulane. Professor Couch was born Feb. 27, 1936 in New Orleans, firstborn son of Harvey C. Couch, Jr. and Beatrice Kearny Couch of Little Rock, Ark. He grew up in Little Rock, attended Loyola University in New Orleans, was a graduate of Hendrix College, and received his M.A. and J.D. from Vanderbilt University. Survivors include his beloved wife, Duane Eagan Couch; three sons, Stephen Francis Couch (Candy) of Scottsdale, Arizona, Robert Randall Couch, and Harvey Matthew Couch (Rachel) of Midway, Kentucky; one daughter, Jennifer Couch Talbot of Charlotte, N.C.; five grandchildren, Adam Wilson Couch, Wesley Joseph Couch, Emery Eagan Talbot, Kearny Quinn Talbot, and Quincy Baker Couch; two sisters, Mary Bea Hiegel (Ken) and Elizabeth Ann Dober, both of Little Rock; and one brother, James Leland Couch (Margie) of Richmond, Va. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Kearny and Donald; and his daughter Susan Elizabeth. An avid reader and Anglophile, Harvey also touched the lives of countless acquaintances, colleagues, and former students with his intelligence, wit, and kind, gentle heart. A mass was said on Monday, Nov. 11, 2013 at Most Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, 6367 St. Charles Avenue. Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Tulane Law School.
