John L. Shock Jr.

John L. Shock Jr., 93, of Conway, born March 8, 1920, in Columbia, Mo., to Luke and Gertrude Shock passed away at Conway Regional Hospital on Friday, Nov. 15, 2013. He is preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Fritz Shock; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Luke Shock; brother-in-law and sister, Robert D. "Don" Thacker and wife Anne Thacker. John is survived by his family R. L. "Butch" and Cindy Thacker, Conway, Mrs. Jack "Bobbi" Roberts, Conway; Dr. Rusty Roberts Jr., of Rome, Ga.: Mr. and Mrs. Tommy and Buffy (Roberts) Goforth, Lauren and Emalee Jack Goforth, of Conway; Dr. David and Liz Myers, Richardson, Texas; Mrs. Linda Tinker of Sacramento, Calif.; Mr. Matt and Parisa Tinker of Folsom, Calif.; Ms. Rebecca Moffett of Fort Wayne, Ind.; Ron and Kelly Conner of Fort Wayne, Ind.; and several other cousins. John was a great husband, uncle, cousin and friend. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in WWII as a paratrooper. After his military service, John was a member of the Winchester skeet shooting and demonstration team. He traveled the world and was a superior marksman winning several international titles. After his years in the service, he returned to Columbia, Mo., and obtained his Masters degree. He moved to Conway in the fall of 1958 as an Associate Professor of Business and Economics at Hendrix College. In 1962, he joined Mr. Fred Malpica in the accounting firm of Malpica, Shock, CPA. He retired in 1980. John was an avid sportsman. One of his favorite sports was quail hunting with his beloved dog, Dan. The family expresses a sincere gratitude to Margaret Swaffar, Vurlon Egger, Kelsey Robinson, Martha York, Troy and Pat Bradley and Dr. Greg Kendrick; four south nurses, especially Robin and Lauren, and Arkansas Hospice for their loving care and support. Graveside services officiated by Pastor Michael Roberts, will be held at 10 a.m., on Monday, Nov. 18, 2013 at Oak Grove Cemetery, Conway, Ark. Pallbearers will be Dr. Rusty Roberts, Tommy Goforth, Fletcher Hensley, Bo Conner, Troy Bradley, Butch Thacker, and Larry Malpica. Mr. Tom Nabholz will serve as honorary pallbearer. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to the Judges Roberts Endowment Fund at St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Faulkner County Humane Society.
