Dr. Paul Martin "Marty" Fiser passed away on Wednesday, November 20, 2013 while surrounded by members of his loving family. Marty was born on July 21, 1945 in Russellville, Arkansas to parents Alice Martin Fiser (deceased) and Paul Fiser (deceased) and sisters Alice Ann Fiser Munson and Susan Fiser Barham (deceased). He nostalgically recalled his idyllic childhood growing up in Russellville in the 1950s, playing any sport that was in season with the neighborhood friends and bird hunting with his father. Marty attended Russellville High School where he was named All State Running Back, graduating in 1963. Marty attended Hendrix College where he majored in Biology, graduating with Honors in 1967. While at Hendrix, he also led the tennis team all four years and was a Rhodes Scholar Finalist. He then earned his MD at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) (‘71) before pursuing residency training in Pediatrics at Shands Teaching Hospital in Gainesville, Florida. He ultimately subspecialized in Allergy and Immunology at Duke University, settling into a career as an Allergist. During this time, he also served his country as a Lieutenant in the US Air Force for three years at Keesler Air Force Base in Mississippi. Marty returned to Arkansas in 1979 as a Clinical Assistant Professor at UAMS, Department of Pediatrics at Arkansas Children's Hospital. He then went into private practice as an Allergist for 30 years at the Arkansas Allergy and Asthma Clinic, where he touched patients' lives from all corners of the state. Marty loved the healing practice of medicine and improving the lives of others. He practiced with a strong sense of humanism and knew well the healing power of a good laugh. His talents in the field of Allergy and Immunology earned him many distinguished honors. He served as President of the Board of Directors for the American Lung Association of Arkansas in 1982 and 1993. He was consistently named among Arkansas' Best Doctors. And he was proud to receive the President's Award for a Lifetime of Service to the Practice of Medicine from the Pulaski County Medical Society in 2012. Marty also enjoyed volunteering his time as a physician at summer Asthma Camp at Camp Aldersgate in Little Rock, Arkansas. Outside of the clinic, Marty was active in his church, St. James United Methodist Church, through the years, and he was an avid golfer and member of the Chenal Country Club. In 2011 he was able to realize a lifetime dream with a trip to play multiple historic courses in Ireland. He was also an outdoorsman who loved fishing and hunting duck and quail. He had a passion for people, and he carried the motto "got to keep them laughing," even during the bleakest of circumstances towards the end of his life. Above all earthly joys in life was his family. He first married in 1968 and had two beloved sons, Noel (Carolyn) Fiser and Barrett (Tonya) Fiser. His second marriage was to Debra Henry Fiser in 1982, and they had Wesley (Claire) Fiser and Kathryn Fiser. He also is survived by his sister Alice Ann (Lee) Munson; nieces Alissa (Matt) Coffield and Caroline Cody; and nephew Eric (Susie) Munson. His children and family will remember him best for his ever nurturing love and generous heart. His unwavering dedication to his family anchors them together today. Visitation with family and friends will be held at Roller-Chenal Funeral Home (13801 Chenal Parkway, Little Rock, Ark.) on Friday, November 22 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.; and funeral services will be held at St. James United Methodist Church (321 Pleasant Valley Drive, Little Rock, Ark.) on Sunday, November 24, beginning at 3 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Dr. Paul Martin Fiser Memorial Fund at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (www.giving.uams.edu or mail checks to 4301 W.
