Carol E. Cato died Sunday, November 24, 2013. She was born September 15, 1934 to Marie Morrison and Floyd Cato in Lonoke, Ark. At an early age she and her family moved to Earle, Ark. At age of 14 she contracted polio. She spent months in the hospital and later months at Warm Springs, Ga. recovering and rehabbing. Although she walked on crutches and later in life used a wheelchair, it never dampened her spirit to survive and achieve. She graduated from Earle High Scholl. And continued her education at Harding University where she received a degree in phycology. She also went to Vanderbilt and received a Master's degree in Rehabilitation Counseling. Carol worked 41 years at the Arkansas Rehabilitation Services Agency. During this time she was appointed several times to the Arkansas Governor's Commission on People with Disabilities and also served on the President's Committee on Employment of Handicapped. She was a longtime member of Pleasant Valley Church of Christ where she taught Sunday school for 27 years, mostly preschoolers. Although Carol didn't have the joy of having her own children, she totally enjoyed the children of others, most recently her great-great-nieces, Livi, Reese, and Helen. She is preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Ruby Ealy and Martha Henry and her brother Daryl "Pete" Cato. Survivors include her nieces, Judy Haddad (John), Ellen Cato Crouthers, and Linda Humphries (Steve) and her nephews Cato, Ealy and Bill Ealy, Herb Henry (Teresa) and Pat Henry (Joan), 11 great-nieces and nephews and 14 great-great-nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind many close friends. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Friday, November 29, 2013 in the Chapel of Roller-Chenal Funeral Home 13801 Chenal Parkway, Little Rock, Ark. (501) 224-8300. Visitation will be one hour prior to service. Burial to follow. Memorial may be made to Camp Aldersgrate, 2000 Aldersgate Road, Little Rock, Ark. 72205 or to charity of your choice.
