Oddy Straight

Oddy Straight, 72, of Springdale long time businessman and resident of Springdale went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, September 29, 2013. He was born January 14, 1941. He was owner and operator of Straight's Lawn and Garden in Springdale. His mission in life was to serve the Lord Jesus Christ through helping others, giving to others, and caring for his family. Oddy served in the Army National Guard for 10 years. He was a plant manager of H.K. Porter Co. in the early to mid 70's. He married his high school sweetheart, Sandy Thompson on January 27, 1961. Their only child, Stephanie was born October 16, 1970. In 1976 he and his wife opened Straight's Lawn and Garden in March of 1976. He grew the business from two employees to what it is today. He was ordained as a deacon at First Baptist Church of Springdale in the late 1960's where he had an active part in the relocation of the church from the old Holcomb Street location to the present facility on Johnson Road which is now known as Cross Church. He served there for about twenty five years, assisting Rev. Cliff Palmer with over 3,000 Baptisms. From there he moved to First Baptist Church of Centerton and again took part in the growth of a small church. He was presently a member of Lakeview Baptist Church in Cave Springs. Oddy was a graduate of Springdale High School where he was a two way starter on the football team. He was preceded in death by his parents Lonzo and Viola Straight and one brother Hugh Straight. He is survived by his wife of fifty two years, Sandy Straight of the home; one daughter, Stephanie Straight of Springdale; two sisters, Juanita Todd and husband Kenneth and Wanda Stroud all of Springdale; one brother, Leon Straight and wife Odell of Alma; sister in law, Betty Straight of Tontitown and many nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Lakeview Baptist Church in Cave Springs with Rev. Johnny Harp, Rev. Cliff Palmer, Rev. Rex Griffin and Rev. Gary Thomas officiating. Burial will be in Bluff Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Sisco Funeral Chapel of Springdale. Memorials may be made to Lakeview Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O.
