Gordon Hiram Avery of Jacksonville, Arkansas passed away on October 1, 2013. He was born October 2, 1936 in Romulus, Michigan to Roger and Thelma Kinsman Avery. He served 25 years in the United States Air Force and three years in the Army as a Green Beret, and was a Korean and Vietnam War veteran. Between enlistments, he met and married the love of his life, Darlene Anne Jones of White Cloud, Michigan, their 47th anniversary was October 1, 2013. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roger and Thelma, brothers, John, George and Russell, sisters, Florence, Thelma, Ruth, and Clara and two grandsons, Adam and Jesse. He is survived by his wife Darlene and his children; Russell Avery (Deborah) of North Carolina, Timothy L. Stillson of Michigan, George Avery of Indiana, Michele Nigro (David) of Arkansas, Kraig Avery of Arkansas, grandchildren; Misty and Lacey Avery of North Carolina, Ashley Stillson of Michigan, Jennifer Van Bonn of Texas, Timothy J. Stillson of North Carolina, Austin Nigro of Arkansas and Cameron Avery of Indiana. Over the years Gordon was active in the Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star and was a member of Jacinto Lodge #216 in Jacksonville. He enjoyed working with the Boys and Girls Scout Troops, Demolay and the Rainbow Girls. He loved children and was an adopted grandpa to many including Christian McFadden of Arkansas and Brittany Lindahl of Colorado. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. Sunday, October 6, 2013 at Moore's Jacksonville Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 7, 2013 at Moore's Jacksonville Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Arkansas State Veteran's Cemetery with Military Honors and Masonic Rites.
