Herbert C. Vanlandingham

Herbert C. Vanlandingham of Sheridan, Arkansas was born November 12, 1931 near Sheridan, the son of the late Bruce and Rosa Kelley Vanlandingham. He was a member of First Landmark Missionary Baptist Church in Sheridan, where he attended the Friendship Sunday School Class and also served as deacon. He was originally ordained as a deacon at Providence Missionary Baptist Church in Jefferson County, where he and his family attended for many years. He served in the United States Army, was retired from International Paper Company, and was a member of the Quarter Century Club for retirees. He belonged to the Roper Hunting Club in Monticello and enjoyed deer and coon hunting, and riding horses. One of Herbert's favorite things was gardening. He was well known for raising watermelons, sweet corn and other produce, and giving it away to his friends and neighbors. Mr. Vanlandingham died Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff at the age of 81 In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Maxine Vanlandingham; sister-in-law, Motier Vanlandingham; brother-in-law, Bobby Price; sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Alver Worthen; mother and father-in-law, Mr. And Mrs. Ed Ard. Survivors include his wife, Lelia Shoops Tedder Vanlandingham of Sheridan; sons, Herbert (Steve) and wife Barbara Vanlandingham of Sheridan, Eddie Holiman Vanlandingham of Pine Bluff, Mark Allen and wife Trina Vanlandingham of Roanoke, Texas; step-daughters, Diane Stewart of Batesville, Mississippi, Amelia (Billy) Taylor of West Point, Mississippi, Barbara (Jim) Trenor of West Point, Mississippi, Johnnie (Marion) Howard of Blythevile, Arkansas, Betty Sue (Eugene) Davis of Cedar Bluff, Mississippi; brothers, T.D. (Pat) Vanlandingham of Sheridan and Doyle (Patsy) Vanlandingham of Sheridan; sisters, Louisa (Bonnie) Smith of Grapevine, Daisy (Henry) Greeson of Pine Bluff, Ava (Johnny) Keen of White Hall; 19 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and a host of other family members and many, many, friends. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, October 11, 2013 at First Landmark Missionary Baptist Church in Sheridan. Burial will follow at Center Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, from 5-8 p.m. at First Landmark Missionary Baptist Church. Memorials may be made to First Landmark Missionary Baptist Church, 402 West Center, Sheridan, Arkansas 72150.
