BENJAMIN J. WOODS, 85, of Sherwood, passed away Oct. 9, 2013. Ben was born in Keo, Ark. on Jan. 4, 1928. He graduated from North Little Rock High School in 1946 and joined the U.S. Marine Corp. After serving his country for three years, he began his career at Southwestern Bell Telephone as a switchman. After 40 years, and several promotions, he retired as an Area Manager in Industry Relations. During his tenure, he was chosen to serve as metro director for the National Alliance of Businessmen (NAB). The NAB was a national joint business-government venture to hire and train disadvantaged people for productive jobs. In that role, he was responsible for securing cooperation from business and industry. After retirement, he and his wife, Victoria, spent many fun-filled years in St Louis where they cheered on their favorite teams, the Rams, Cardinals and Razorbacks and enjoyed the local culture including the Gateway Men's Chorus, the Fox Theatre and the Gateway Miata Club before returning home to North Little Rock to be close to family and friends. He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Edwin Woods and Gladys Cantrell Woods Holland and Ramona Woods, the mother of his children. Ben (known as BB to his grandchildren) is survived by his wife of 30 years, Victoria Chandler Woods of Sherwood, and his brother Edwin P Woods Jr. (Melba) of Tampa, Fla. Also surviving are his children, Mona Burris (Darren) and Jerry Woods, both of Sherwood; granddaughter, Sara Lemoir (Mark) of Bristol, England; grandson, Geno Jameson of Sherwood; three great-grandsons, Jacob, Ethan, and Connor Lemoir of Bristol, England, and many adoring nieces and nephews. Officiating pastor will be, Brother Roy Tilley. Funeral services will be 12 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 14 at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Funeral Home.
