Ann Shirley Kitchens Tyler

ANN SHIRLEY KITCHENS TYLER, beloved wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great-grandmother, died Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013, at Presbyterian Village in Little Rock, Ark. She was 83. Shirley was born Dec. 16, 1929, in Macon, Ga., to Katheryne and J.B. Kitchens. She grew up in Macon and graduated from Miller High School. After graduating from Macon Hospital Nursing School as a registered nurse, she worked for Dr. J.D. Applewhite. On Aug. 26, 1950, she married Charles Heard (Sam) Tyler. The couple lived in Macon and Rome, Ga., before moving with their first two sons to Pine Bluff, Ark., in 1957 for Sam's job. Shirley worked for Davis Hospital and taught nursing at Pines Vocational-Technical School. The couple's other three children were born in Pine Bluff. Shirley was a faithful member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Pine Bluff and a good deal of her free time was involved in church work. She is predeceased by her parents and her brother, William "Billy" Kitchens. She is survived by her husband of 63 years; sons, Michael (Sandra) Tyler of Sherwood, Stephen (Kay) Tyler of Maumelle, Mark (Laura) Tyler of Little Rock and Sam (Lisa) Tyler of Sheridan; daughter Katheryne (B.J.) Johnson of Rison; David Puckett of Sheridan; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Her body was cremated. A visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 7, at Roller-Chenal Funeral Home, 13801 Chenal Parkway, in Little Rock. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Shirley's name to Wesley United Methodist Church, 3010 Hazel St., Pine Bluff, Ark. 71601.
