Delbert Dwain Hairston, age 85, of Benton passed away Friday Aug. 30, 2013 from complications of a stroke. Dewain was born Dec. 9, 1927, to the late Walter and Una Hairston of Lincoln County. He was also preceded in death by sisters, Willerene Bulter, Laverne Hathcote, Frances Blakely, Elsie Austin, Brothers, Louis Hairston, Dudley Hairston, Doyle Blythe, son, Dr. R. Keith Hairston of Texarkana. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Helen Craig Hairston, son, Kent (Darla) Hairston, daughter, Sherri (Tim) Poe, grandchildren, Rachel (Bryan) Garner, Ryan Hairston, Keely (Andrew) Norman, Timmy (Ashley) Poe, Gillian (Jeremy) Heatley, great-granddaughter, Linlee Garner and several nieces and nephews. Dwain attended Bryant Schools and served in the Merchant Marines and US Army during the Korean War. He was an avid runner having completed the Boston Marathon in 1983. He was a member of the Long Hills Golf Association and was a long time volunteer of the Junior Golf Program. Dwain retired from Reynolds Metals Company after 35 years of service and was a faithful member of Northside Church of Christ in Benton. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 2, 2013 at Ashby's. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Ashby Funeral Home Chapel, Jim Garner will officiate. Burial will be at Pine Crest Cemetery.
