Roger Stanley Almond of Hot Springs, Ark., passed away Tuesday, Aug. 27 in Cabo San Lucus, Mexico. Roger was born Oct. 12, 1942 in DeWitt, Ark. He was preceded in death by his son, David Rutledge Almond; his parents, Stanley and LouElla Almond; a brother, Dennis Clyde Almond; and his father-in-law, Joseph Edison Keithley. Roger is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jean Keithley Almond; his daughter, Rachel Carol Mitchell; three grandchildren, Blake and Kaylin Mitchell and Kristin Weyenberg; his brother, Jerry Wayne Almond (Diane); sister-in-law, Barbara Almond; brother-in-law, Joseph Keithley (Gelene); sister-in-law, Carol Baird (Robert); brother-in-law, Daniel Keithley (Christie); a special Mother-in-law whom he loved dearly, Hallie Gosnell Keithley; and special friends in our family, Martin and Monita Weyenberg and John Stolz Jr. There are a host of nieces and nephews and special friends loved by him but too numerous to mention. Roger graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1968 with a degree in Civil Engineering. He spent his entire professional career as a registered, professional engineer with the Arkansas State Highway and Department of Transportation. He progressed through many positions during his career with the A.H.T.D and in 1992 was named Deputy Director and Chief Engineer. Roger retired from the A.H.T.D. in 1998. Roger has served on national committees and been in leadership positions in both state and local service organizations. In every project he undertook, he always gave his best. However, nothing was more important to Roger than God, family and friends. He strived to be the best Christian, husband, father, grandfather & friend he could be. Those who have had the privilege of knowing Roger are truly blessed. His memorial service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3 at Grand Avenue United Methodist Church in Hot Springs with the Rev. George Rook and Rev. Don Nolley officiating. A reception for family and friends will follow at the Forest Lakes Clubhouse.
