Raymond "Ray" W. Hawkins, 87, known by many as "Dago," of Poplar Bluff, Mo., passed away Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013 at his daughter's residence. Mr. Hawkins was born Dec. 5, 1925 in Kennett, Mo. He was the first son of Everett and Myrtle (Fry) Hawkins. He was a member of First General Baptist Church and worked many years as the "Dairy Man" working for both Wallis – Case and Blakeney Dairy. He later retired from Arkansas Best Freight, Little Rock Terminal. Mr. Hawkins enjoyed spending time with his family, was an avid horseman, active in livestock, poultry and dogs. He also had many coffee house buddies. On Feb. 2, 1946 he married Norma Jean Whalen in Piggott, Ark. She survives of the home. Other survivors include three children: Carol J. Inman of Poplar Bluff, Gary R. Hawkins of Dallas, Texas and Larry Hawkins (Dianne) of Beebe, Ark.; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and three sisters: Bonnie Thom and Jo Ann McGowen (Roy) all of Poplar Bluff and Pauline Ryan of California. His parents; two brothers, Robert Hawkins and Don Hawkins; a sister, Lucille Hendrix and her husband Bill, and brother-in-law, Elmer Thom preceded him in death. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. with Dr. Dick Murray officiating.
