Fay W. Smith, 82, went to be with his Lord and Savior Sept. 8, 2013. He was born August 27, 1931 to Arthur and Hester Holland Smith in Gravesville, Ark. Fay grew up in Gravesville, and graduated from Southside High School in Bee Branch. He taught grades 1-8 in a one room school house and attended ASTC (now UCA) receiving his BSE. He went on to obtain his Master's and doctorate degrees in education at the University of Arkansas. He was a veteran of the Korean War and served in the army reserve. His career in education included principal and teacher at Lead Hill, assistant principal and teacher at Conway, principal at Kennett, Mo., director of education at Conway Children's Colony and Arkansas Rehabilitation Center in Hot Springs, and worked with the Magnolia School District. Years later he established his own business, ECS Planning and Management. Fay was a charter member of Woodland Heights Baptist Church and served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher, a Gideon, and BSF leader. He was very involved with his community and was honored with various awards over his lifetime. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers Vernie and Roy Smith and sisters Earnestine Hankins and Farriest Thompson Lyons Fay is survived by his wife of 59 years, Deveryl Miller Smith, his children Karen Throneberry (Bart), Scott Smith (Dorene), Lorna Hefley (Jim), Carol Norman (Ken), 11 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and one sister, Lucy Coleman of Damascus. Special thanks to Debbie Chapman's Seeds of Love, caregivers, Angie Leber and Janice James and Odyssey Hospice. Celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 11, 2013, at Woodland Heights Baptist Church, 4215 Prince St, Conway, Ark. 72034, with Pastors David Hatfield and Larry Pillow officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Woodland Heights Baptist Church, P.O.
