Evelyn Marie Laird born July 5th, 1944 at Newport, Arkansas and passed away at Portland, Oregon, Sept. 19th, 2013 at age 69. Marie was preceded in death by her mother and father, two infant siblings, a sister Nora Lee Laird, a brother Edward Laird, and her oldest brother, J.R. Laird. She is survived by six sisters, Frances Stephens and her husband, Denzil of El Dorado, Kansas, Ruby (Gerry) McDaniel of Carthage, Texas, OmaLee of Marshall, Texas, Sue Smith of Searcy, Arkansas, Linda Jensen of Frisco, Texas and Glenda Evans and her husband, Tom of Gravel Ridge, Arkansas. She is also survived by four brothers, J.L. Laird and his wife, Jearl of Warren, Michigan, Lester Laird and his wife, Liz of Lacoochee, Florida, Bill Laird and his wife, Kathleen of Little Rock, Arkansas, Dale Laird and his wife, Teresa of Bowling Green, Kentucky, several cousins, nephews and nieces. Marie graduated as Valedictorian of her class at Grubbs, Arkansas in 1962 and from Harding University with a B.A. degree in Physical Education at Searcy, Arkansas in 1966. She then earned a Master's and Doctorate Degree from Springfield College in Springfield, Massachusetts. She then moved across the United States to Portland, Oregon and spent the rest of her life teaching and coaching at Columbia Christian College in Portland and Oregon State University at Corvallis, Oregon. She also worked for the State of Oregon traveling and speaking to employees concerning their retirement and as an advisor in Financial Planning. A Memorial Service will be Saturday, September 28th at Holden Avenue Church of Christ in Newport, Arkansas. Visitation will be at 10 a.m., service at 11 a.m.
