Michael David Smith

Michael David Smith, age 64, a lifetime resident of Crossett, Ark. went to be with his Lord and Savior on September 25, 2013, after losing his battle with cancer. He was born on December 30, 1948 in Crossett, Ark. to his parents, Nelson and Dora Dean Smith. Mr. Smith served in the U.S. Navy from 1968-1972. He retired from Georgia Pacific Paper Operations in October 2011, having worked in the Tissue Shipping Department for 33 years. Mr. Smith was a long time member of the Crossett Riding Club and an active member on the board and served three years as President; longtime member of Pace Union and served as President for several years; and Charter Member and Board Member of Bay Ridge Hunting Club for many years. He was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, Nelson and Dora Dean Smith. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Jimmie Smith; two daughters, Carrie Moffatt (John), Michelle Barnett (Wesley); one son, Chris Smith (Jennifer); one brother, Danny Smith (Susan), all of Crossett, Ark.; five grandchildren, Karlie Allen, Somer Barnett, Zach Barnett, Jacey Allen, Joey Smith; one great-grandson, Benton Allen; three step-grandchildren, Amber Moffatt, Ashley King, Rob Moffatt; two step-great-grandchildren, Derek, Mia and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, September 28, 2013 at Mount Olive Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Crossroads Cemetery under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Crossett, Ark. (www.jonesservice.com). Ark.
