Melvin Wilkins, age 88, of Bryant, passed away April 9, 2014. He was born October 5, 1925 in Sugar Grove, Arkansas. Melvin was a member of The First United Methodist Church in Benton. He was a PFC in the U.S. Army, serving in the European Theatre of Operations in WWII. Melvin retired from Reynolds Metals Co. after 36 Years in the Instrument Department and thoroughly enjoyed 29 years of retirement. Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, Marcus and Pearl Wilkins, sisters, Syble Smith, Mae Organ, and Verneda Craig, brothers, Owen Wilkins, and Charles Henry Wilkins, grandson, Matthew Taylor. Survivors, wife of 62 years, Janie Wilkins, Bryant; children, Mary Jane and Don Dove, Bryant; Maggie and Jim Taylor, Amarillo, Texas; brothers, John Paul Wilkins, M. L., sister, Mary Alice Khilling, all of Magazine, Arkansas Wilkins granddaughters, Claire Taylor, New York City; Paige Taylor, Lubbock, Texas. Family gives a special thanks to Dr. Vasili Lendel and Ann Schweitzer, CNS and staff of Arkansas Heart Hospital. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Ashby's. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church in Benton with burial at Pine Crest Cemetery. Minister will be Rev. Victor Green.
