Henry H. Walton

Henry H. Walton was born September 7, 1928 in Clarksville, Ark. to parents Ruby Louise and C.B. (Burr) Walton. Dr. George Hargrave delivered him at home. Henry lived in Johnson Co. for his entire life alongside his five siblings. Henry was the fifth of six children born to the Waltons. Raymond, R.P, Anna, and Ruby Louise were all older siblings to Henry. Jimmy Earl was Henry's younger brother. Henry lived an eventful and fruitful life filled with family, friends, and laughter. He also served his country as a member of the Navy during the Korean War from 1948-1951. He was stationed in Norfolk, Va., and was assigned to two ships, the USS Coral Sea and USS Daniel A. Joy. After returning from the war, Henry married the love of his life, JoAnn Park, on January 16, 1955 at the First Methodist Church of Clarksville Chapel. Over their 59 years of marriage, Henry and JoAnn shared their love and laughter with countless friends and the family they created together. Henry was lucky enough to have three children. Sara, Raymond, and Susie were his pride and joy. Even at his death, the sight and sound of his children brought a smile to his face. Henry was also blessed with two grandsons. Dr. Alfred William Keller III and Benjamin Paul Keller, sons to Sara, were Henry's second crowning achievement. He donned the title "Papaw" after the birth of his grandchildren and has been known by this moniker ever since. He loved spending time with his grandsons and teaching them the many life lessons he had picked up over his time on this world. Besides family, Henry dedicated his time and efforts after the war to his work and to his community. He began to work for the family construction business, C. Burrow Walton Construction, as a carpenter upon his return home. Henry then worked at the Clarksville Shoe Factory for 25 years before retiring. Henry also served as a Scoutmaster for Troop 76 for seven years. He also regularly attended the Friendship Sunday School through the First United Methodist Church of Clarksville. Henry's love for his church and community came through his wonderful meals he prepared. Nearly every event held by the church had Henry overseeing the kitchens. Henry Walton left this life for the next at 7:08 p.m. on Sunday April 13, 2014. He was surrounded by his loving wife, JoAnn, his three children, and his two grandchildren as he departed for the next journey in his eternal life. His mother and father, his five siblings, and his son-in-law Dr. Alfred William Keller, Jr. precede Henry in death. Henry is survived by his wife JoAnn, his three children, Sara, Raymond, and Susie, his two grandsons, Will and Ben, and countless other family members and friends. Henry will always be remembered as the man who said family is what mattered most. Through the best and the worst, he was always there for his family; ready to crack a joke to make us smile again. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that all memorials be given to the First United Methodist Church of Clarksville Building Fund. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home. Henry's funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 17, 2014, at the Clarksville First United Methodist Church, with Rev. David Hanshaw officiating. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery.
