Gene Arthur Sanders

Gene Arthur Sanders, 86, of Magnolia, Arkansas, passed away on April 17th. He was born in Springhill, Louisiana, on August 23rd, 1927 to Arthur Clifton and Vera Wise Sanders. He was a World War II veteran who served in the Philippines. He began his career as a geologist with McAlester Fuel Company in 1951, after graduating from Louisiana State University. He married the former Evagene Copeland in 1952. He is survived by his wife Evagene, daughter Nancy Smith and husband Robert Smith of Mandeville, La., son Tommy Sanders and wife Casey of Little Rock, son Kenny Sanders of Magnolia and son Cliff Sanders and wife Valerie of Magnolia. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Rachel Smith of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Martin Smith of Oklahoma City, Quinten Sanders of Little Rock and Barrett Sanders of Fayetteville. He was preceded in death by his sister Marteal Wright and brother Bob Sanders. He was a sustaining member of the Magnolia Boys and Girls Club, a member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists and the Shreveport Geological Society. Visitation will be at Lewis Funeral Home in Magnolia on Friday, April 18 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be at the Lewis Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday April 19th at 11 a.m., with graveside services at Magnolia Memorial Park cemetery afterwards. The family would like to thank all the caregivers who assisted Gene in his long period of illness. Memorials should be sent to the Magnolia Boys and Girls Club.
