Gene Tiner, 94, of Grand Island died April 20, 2014 at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island. Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Friday, April 25, 2014 at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home with Pastor Caroline Price-Gibson officiating. Burial will be at the Grand Island City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. Online condolences may be directed to www.livson.com. Memorials may be directed to the Humane Society. Gene was born October 15, 1919 to Victor and Gussie (Cox) Tiner in Monticello, Ark. He graduated high school and attended college until entering the Air Force. During that time he flew over 25 missions. He was honorably discharged. He married Bette Webb on August 17, 1966 in Colorado. The couple lived in Nebraska and Texas and later settled in Grand Island. He worked for Farmland and other agricultural companies. Gene enjoyed golf and hunting. Gene is survived by his wife: Bette of Grand Island; daughters: Janet (Martin) Vogt of Texas, Tracy (Kevin) Wilson of Texas, Joan Dubberly of Nevada; 6 grandchildren; son-in-law, James Heatly of Arkansas; four great-children; brother: James (Mary Jane) Tiner of Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his parents, parents-in-law; and daughter, Judith Heatly.
