L.C. Hicks Jr.

L.C. Hicks Jr., 83, of Russellville, died Thursday, April 24, 2014 at Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center in Russellville. He was born May 30, 1930 in Dover, and was the son of Luther C. Hicks Sr. and Chloe Roberts Hicks. He was a 1948 graduate of Russellville High School and graduated from Arkansas Polytechnic College in 1956. He and Mary Jane Gilbreath were married on June 15, 1954 in Russellville. As a member of the Arkansas National Guard's 217th Maintenance Battalion and a SGT 1st Class, he also worked for the Guard for several years after college. In the 1960s, he began working with local builders, including Lewis Brinkman and Hurst & Story Construction Company. He started up his own construction company in 1972, and for nearly two decades was a leading home builder in the Arkansas River Valley. He retired from this business in 1988 to become a teacher of building trades in the Russellville public schools from which he retired in 1995. L.C. enjoyed golf, was a member of the Russellville Country Club and had a reputation as an exceptional putter. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a charter member of the Carden Sunday School Class. He was preceded by his parents; and a sister, Rita Dunn. He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Hicks, Russellville; son, L.C. "Buddy" Hicks III and his wife Jody, The Woodlands, Texas; daughter, Beverly Behrens and husband, Paul, Jacksonville, Fla.; a granddaughter, Paige Hicks, San Antonio, Texas; a nephew, Jim Dunn, Russellville; cousins, Bob Hicks Moore, Margaret Moseley, Jamie Hodges, all of Russellville, and Dr. Tom Roberts of Dallas, Texas. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m., on Sunday, April 27, 2014 at Humphrey Funeral Home. Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, April 28, 2014 at First United Methodist Chapel. Rev. Gail Brooks and Mr. Jim Bob Humphrey will officiate. Burial will be private at Rest Haven Memorial Park in Russellville, by Humphrey Funeral Service.
