ROBERT MAIER, after 92 years on earth, was invited into Paradise on Saturday, April 19, 2014. The youngest of five children born to William and Lizzie Maier, he is predeceased by his parents; his first wife of 35 yrs, Kathleen; siblings, Opal Crandall, Rose Davis, Leland (Bud) Maier; and two nieces, Lucretia Buell, Peggy Butler; and nephew, Bill Maier. He is survived by his second wife, Mary of little Rock; his brother, Eldon Maier of Stuttgart; nephews, Joe Maier (Polly), Jerry Maier (Debbie), Bobby Dean Davis (Alisha Jo), Brooks Davis (La Donna) -all of Stuttgart; nieces, Shirley Blackwell (Tommy) of Ulm, Sharon Rodgers of Hot Springs, Terri Harris (Keith) of Little Rock, Regina Dickerson (L.H.) of Bossier City, La.; and many great-nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his feline companions; Meenie, Mynie and Moe. Bob was called to active duty during World War II and served in the South Pacific as a plane Mechanic. Following his discharge, he married Kathleen Bracewell and they were married for 35 years, when she died in 1982. It was at church that he met his second wife, Mary Agnes (Powell) Slimer and they married in 1984. June 21 would have been their 30th wedding anniversary. Neither marriage resulted in any children, but he devoted many hours to his nieces and nephews. Soon, he began farming rice and soybeans on a small leased farm in Stuttgart. This led to the family owned farm, known now as Maier Farms, in which Bob acted as secretary/treasurer for 32 years. After retirement, he was such a frequent visitor to Greentree Nursery, that they hired him! He served faithfully in several church affiliations through the years: St. Pauls United Methodist Church of Little Rock, The Bible church of Little Rock, All Souls Church in Scott and Little Rock Bible Chapel, which he help organize. He spent many hours maintaining the grounds in pristine condition. Bob will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him. He was a quiet man with generous loving heart, who supported many ministries for God's glory. He loved to putter around his home and shop, making wind chimes and duck calls. Bob's yard was full of beautiful irises and azaleas and he could frequently be found working in his yard or taking care of his adopted cats. He also enjoyed bird hunting and duck hunting. He shot his first and last deer on the same day and after that, he only shot photos of deer. One of his many blessings was that of having great neighbors. Bob truly lived life to the fullest. After a brief illness, he died at Hospice Home Care with family at his side. A special thanks from the family goes to Sandy and Sally at Christian Companions; Caregivers, Angela, Lisa and DeeDee; Hospice Home Care, Ora and Nurse Pam; and Physicians: Dr. Paul Zelnick and Dr. Dean Kumpuris. A memorial service will be on May 3 at All Souls Church in Scott. Instead of Flowers, the family would like contributions be made to The Humane Society of Pulaski County, Hospice home care, or to the givers favorite charity.
