Brown E. Dodd

Brown E. Dodd passed from this life on Friday, 25, 2014, in Searcy after an extended illness. Born in Batesville, Arkansas, on August 29, 1926, he was the son of Isaac Lawrence and Flora Brown Dodd. Upon graduation from Batesville High School, Mr. Dodd entered the U. S. Army in 1944 where he fought in the Pacific Theater and then was assigned to General Douglas McArthur's Honor Guard in Tokyo, Japan. Upon completion of his military service, he returned to the United States and enrolled in the College of the Ozarks 9Now the University of the Ozarks) at Clarksville. While there, he chose a pre-pharmacy course of study and then enrolled and graduated from the University of Oklahoma School of Pharmacy. Following graduation in 1951, Mr. Dodd located in Searcy and was employed at Headlee Drug Store, In 1957 he was named as the head pharmacist at Porter R. Rodgers Hospital and then assumed the head of the department of pharmacy at Central Arkansas General Hospital where he served the remainder of his career until his retirement. Mr. Dodd held membership in numerous organizations. He was an active member of the Searcy Rotary Club, the Searcy Country Club, and the Arkansas Pharmacists Association. He was also designated as a 33rd Degree Mason in the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, and when Bill Clinton was governor of Arkansas, he appointed Mr. Dodd to the Arkansas Alcoholic Beverage Control Board. A member of Trinity Episcopal Parish Church, Mr. Dodd served on the vestry and acted as an usher. He had special interests in traveling, reading, Razorback football, and sailing on Greer's Ferry Lake. Additionally, he enjoyed having friends in all walks of life. Preceding Mr. Dodd in death were his parents, one sister, Lu Lynn King, two brothers, Isaac Lawrence Dodd, Jr., and Jimmy Dodd Sr. Survivors who will cherish his memory are nieces, Linda King of Searcy, Deann Coleman of Batesville, and Jan Hicks of Richmond, Missouri, nephews, Jimmy Dodd, Jr. of Paragould, and Dr. Lawrence D. Dodd of Hot Springs, and a cousin, Bob Moore of Richmond, Virginia, as well as a host of great-nieces and great-nephews and numerous friends. A Funeral Service for Mr. Dodd will be conducted on Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Parish Church with Reverend Father Pat Barker and Reverend David D. Crouch officiating. The Family will receive guest at 10 AM at the church. Arrangements by Roller-Daniel Funeral Home. Burial will be at 2 p.m. at Oaklawn Cemetery in Batesville, Arkansas.
