Evelyn Langston Montgomery

Mrs. Evelyn Langston Montgomery, of Little Rock, was born to the late William Langston and Bertha Thomas Harris on November 26, 1948 in Keo, Arkansas. She confessed a hope in Christ at an early age at the Greater Paradise Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Jerry Black in Little Rock, Arkansas. She was united in Holy Matrimony to the Reverend Alvin Montgomery Sr. on May 21, 1988, becoming one big family with her four children. After marriage she moved her membership to the Centennial Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Ronald Forte Sr. in Hensley, Arkansas. She later united with the Mount Hope Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Ivory Brooks in 2011. She then united with the Grace Temple C.O.G.I.C. under the leadership of Reverend Willie Floyd where she remained faithful until her death. Mrs. Evelyn was employed at the Baptist Medical Center as a supervisor over Environmental Services. She also worked Abs at Channel Four for many years. After years of service she retired in 1995. Mrs. Evelyn worked closely with her husband Reverend Alvin Montgomery where he pastored the Free Will Church of God In Christ. She served as a Sunday school teacher, secretary, Women Day President, and sang in the Adult Choir. She was preceded in death by her parents William and Bertha Langston; one brother, Curtis Harris; two nieces, Debra Langston Johnson and Karen Little Gunn. She departed this life on Monday, April 28, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Vincent Hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas. Her memory will be forever cherished by her husband of 25 years, Reverend Alvin Montgomery; two daughters, Lynette (Cory) Flowers and Linda Langston; two sons, Kenneth (Lisa) Langston and Calvin L. Langston all of Little Rock, Arkansas; two stepdaughters, Lisa (David) Brown and Nicole Montgomery; two stepsons, Alvin Henry Montgomery Jr. and Mark (Monica) Montgomery; four sisters, Mary Young, Bertha Langston, Joyce Langston, and Delorise Williams all of Little Rock, Arkansas; two brothers, Nathaniel Langston and Author Harris; three aunts, Helen Thomas, Shelva Thomas, and Flossie Murry; four grandchildren, Carmella and Kyane Langston, Antonio Flowers, and Ashley Howell; three great grandchildren, Terrance Langston, Christopher Adams, and Braylon Jefferson; two special daughters, Irene Franklin and Vonda Anderson and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, a host of other relatives, friends, and the Free Will Church of God In Christ Church family who will miss her greatly. Family Hour will be held Friday, May 2, 2014 from 6 p.m.- 7 p.m. at the Griffin Leggett Healey and Roth Chapel, 5800 W. 12th St., Little Rock (501) 661-9111. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, May 3, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Gaines Street Baptist Church in Little Rock, Arkansas. Interment will follow at Rest In Peace Cemetery.
