Jerry Donald Sweetser, age 81, of Pensacola, Florida passed away Thursday July 31, 2014 in Fayetteville. He was born June 18, 1933 in Fayetteville to Jack and Velda Sutton Sweetser. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Betty Omohundro, Marion Andrews, Billie Ray Bloyed, brother, Bob Sweetser. He was a general contractor, owner, developer and real estate broker for Sweetser Construction and Sweetser Properties. He was a recipient of the 1983 Mental Health Service Award. He was an avid golfer, accomplished artist, painter, a jewelry maker and an avid bird hunter. He was a graduate of University High School. He was a member of Associated General Contractors, the Arkansas Real Estate Association, a 32nd degree Mason and member of Masonic Lodge #740, he received the Shriners 50 year pin. He was on the Board of Directors for Northwest National Bank, Citizens Bank and the Bank of Arkansas. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1953-1955. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Sharon Blackman Sweetser; a daughter, JoHannah Sweetser Stafford of Fayetteville; two sons, Michael Allen Sweetser of Fayetteville, William Gregory Sweetser and his wife Kelly of Fayetteville, a sister, Polly Shannon of Fayetteville, a brother, Tom Sweetser of Dover, Arkansas; ten grandchildren, Blake Sweetser, Jeremy Stafford, Courtney Sweetser, Lauren Sweetser, Mickalea Daines, J.D. Stafford, Mary Kathryn Sweetser, Josh Stafford, John Michael Sweetser, Thatcher Sweetser; two great-grandchildren, Zoe Kyle and Serenity Stafford. The family would like to thank Cane Hill Residence and Staff, Walnut Grove Nursing and Rehabilitation and Staff and Willard Walker Hospice Home and Staff. Special thanks to caregivers Brenda Dowell, April Cantrell and Wanda Hall; Dr. Wayne Brooks and Health South, Dr. David Ratcliff, Dr. Ben Hall and Dr. Stan Bradley. Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at Saint Paul's Episcopal Church in Fayetteville, under the direction of Moore's Chapel in Fayetteville.
