Augustine Bednar Melkovitz

Augustine Bednar Melkovitz, 96, of Little Rock, widow of Anthony S. Melkovitz, died Monday, August 4, 2014, at Hospice Home Health in Little Rock. Mrs. Melkovitz was born April 24, 1918, in Slovak, Ark., to John and Mary Medlick Bednar. She and her husband, whom she was married to for 46 years before his death, owned and operated Melkovitz Grocery in Slovak for nearly 30 years. She was a member of Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church where she was also active in the Altar Society. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by five brothers and one sister. Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews and their families along with a host of cousins. Funeral Mass, officiated by Father Phillip Reaves, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church with burial following in Slovak Cemetery by Turpin Funeral Home of Stuttgart. Visitation will be 5:30-6:30 p.m. Friday with Rosary being said at 6:30 p.m. at Turpin Funeral Home. Her family requests memorials be made to Sts.
