Ruby Lee Hays, 81, of Mayflower, Arkansas passed away on August 5, 2014. She was born on November 8, 1932 in Petrolia, Texas to the late Jodie Awbrey and Nannie Nelson Awbrey. As a military wife Ruby traveled to many places including Germany, which she loved. She also attended the World Fair in Luxenbourg. Ruby earned her Associates Degree from Petit Jean Vo-Tech, and she was a Licensed Practical Nurse for over 15 years. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles and doing cross-stitch. Ruby also had a great love for cats. She is preceded in death by her husband of twenty years; Senior Master Sergeant Edward Hays, one brother; John Awbrey, two sisters; Loyce Shoup, and Evelyn Phillips, and a special friend; Donald Jeffries. Ruby is survived by one son; Dale Hays (Michele) of Colorado Springs, Colo., one daughter; Nannette Smith of Mayflower, four grandchildren; Diana Howell of Okinawa, Japan, Deana Howell of Mayflower, Kia Hays of Los Angeles, Calif. and Sean Hays of Tucson, Ariz., one great grandchild; Jaqui Howell of Mayflower, one sister; Venita Harrison of Burkburnett, Texas., as well as many nieces, nephews, and other family members. She is also survived by a very special friend; James Goodrich. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Sunday, August 10, 2014 at Roller-McNutt Funeral Home with Bro. Jeremy Ingram officiating. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, August 9, 2014 at the funeral home. Interment will follow the funeral service at Mayflower Cemetery.
