Carl Henry Lenggenhager

CARL HENRY LENGGENHAGER, aged 99 years, 10 months and nine days, passed away July 29, 2014, in Georgetown, Texas. Born in Saline County, Ark., on Sept. 20, 1914 to Mary Barbara Pattberg and Albert Herman Lenggenhager; he was the fifth of their six children. His father Albert died as the result of a car accident in 1919 when Carl was five years old. The family then moved to Little Rock and were long time residents of 1824 S. Allis. His mother later met Jakob Stoll a widower and father of four. They married in 1921 and together added two more children to their already busy and boisterous home. A graduate of Little Rock High School he was voted Most Handsome in his class! Dec. 26, 1938, he married his high school sweetheart, Dorothy Jane Harpham. Two daughters were born into this marriage, Mary Ellen in 1940 and Sally Jane in 1946. In 1944 Dorothy, Carl and Mary Ellen moved to 2400 N Fillmore. Dorothy taught history and civics at Little Rock Central High School from 1953 until her retirement in 1970. Carl was still living at 2400 when he suffered a stroke in December 2010 and in February 2011 moved to Georgetown, Texas, where he lived with daughter Mary Ellen. As a young man growing up in a large family during the depression he always worked at something. Among his favorite careers he was produce buyer for Kroger's, owned the White Kitchen on West 3rd St. with his brother Walter, sold residential real estate with Block Realty, and was a salesman with Independent Linen Service. He was among the founding members of Riverdale Country Club which later became Pleasant Valley Country Club. A lifelong golfer he was a scratch player and was known as one of the best putters out there! He was proud of his three holes-in-one. After retirement he enjoyed playing golf and traveling to many golf tournaments where he was the announcer as each player started their round. One of his most enjoyable jobs in retirement was the 20 years he spent at Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs where he often worked the Arkansas Room for private parties. Another of his favorites was ferrying cars for various dealerships in Little Rock giving him the opportunity to visit all parts of Arkansas and surrounding states. When he turned 90 they had to retire him! He is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy who died in 1970. Also preceding him were his parents; and brothers, Albert, Otto, Walter and Edward; sister, Emma Adkins; half-sister, Pauline Kelly Anderson; and step-siblings, Mattias, Phillip Emil and John Stoll and Louise Stoll Baker. He is survived by his half-sister, Bertha Stoll Lambert Stevenson of Benton, Ark.; and daughters, Mary Ellen Stubbe (widow of Donald Carl Stubbe) of Georgetown, Texas, and Sally Blewett, and husband Tim of Little Rock; grandchildren are Richard Stubbe and wife Diana of Houston, Texas, John Stubbe of Austin, Texas, Ellen Stubbe Kester and husband Steve also of Austin, Carl Standiford (Stan) Blewett, of Taipei, Taiwan and Anne Blewett Ansley and husband Steve or Arlington, Texas; great-grandchildren are Christina Stubbe of Austin, and Marissa Stubbe of Houston; Eliza Stubbe of Austin; Kathryn, Sarah and Thomas Kester of Austin and Carson and Emma Ansley of Arlington; many, many nieces and nephews also survive him. A memorial service will be held in Little Rock at Roller-Chenal Funeral Home on Saturday, Sept. 20, 2014…his 100th Birthday. Details will be forthcoming.
