John Andrew Makovec, 83, of Stuttgart passed away Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2014, in his home. He was born Nov. 26, 1930, in Slovak Town to John A. and Elizabeth Palovcik Makovec. He was a graduate of Subiaco Academy. He was a life-long farmer and member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. John A. Makovec was a hard-working man. He loved his farm and was a good steward of his land. He was a successful businessman who knew how to manage his money. He was an avid sportsman and loved to hunt, fish and trap. His other interests were coaching Little League baseball from 1971-1977, raising bird dogs and collecting bottles, old books, stoneware and glass. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Effie Colclasure Makovec; their son, John A. Makovec; two brothers, Melvin Makovec and Charlie Makovec; and sister, June Webber. Survivors are son, Ken Makovec of Stuttgart; three daughters, Carolyn Erstine (Mike) of Cabot, Patty Siebenmorgen (Tom) of Conway and Megan Lieber (Justin) of Benton; 15 grandchildren, Laura Summers, Jonathan Erstine, Benjamin Erstine, Martha Witler, Annie Elsinger, Frances Maness, Janie Elsinger, William T. Siebenmorgen, Joseph B. Siebenmorgen, John A. Siebenmorgen, Melvin C. Siebenmorgen, Katie L. Siebenmorgen, Ginny H. Siebenmorgen and Eli P. Seibenmorgen and Holden Lieber; and 16 great-grandchildren, Amelia, John Michael, Samantha, Paul, Mathew, Nicola, Logan, Terrance, Benedict, Therese, Rose, Charlie, Zelie, Scout, Mia and John Raphael. Visitation will be from 5-6 p.m. Sunday with Rosary being said at 6 p.m. at Turpin Funeral Home. Funeral Mass, officiated by Father Phillip Reaves, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church with burial following in Lone Tree Cemetery.
