Edith Mae Ashcraft

Edith Mae Hamilton Ashcraft, 86, of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, died Sunday, August 17, 2014, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center. She was born August 25, 1927, in Jefferson County to Lon and Rachel Huntley Hamilton. She graduated from Rison High School in 1945. She also attended music school in Dallas, Texas. She enjoyed working at her father's gas and grocery store when she was young. Mrs. Ashcraft was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Carmel Methodist Church in Cleveland County, the Order of the Eastern Star, Lodge 583, 60 year member of the Arkansas Extension Homemaker Council and a 4-H Club leader. Later she worked at the County Elections, and was an avid pianist of gospel music. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas "Elton" Ashcraft, whom she married on April 12, 1947, in Pine Bluff; her parents and a sister, Catherine Kavanaugh. Survivors include her daughter, Barbara Lynn Spicer (Jim) of St. Joseph, Michigan; sisters, Ida Mae Pitchford of Mena, Rose Mary Butler of Fayetteville; grandchildren, Thomas Spicer of St. Joseph, Michigan and Jayme Kain (Robert) of Fayetteville. Visitation will be Wednesday, 6 to 8 p.m. at Robinson's. Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Thursday, August 21, 2014, Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son. Burial will follow in Brown Cemetery.
