Hollis Bain of Little Rock passed away Wednesday, August 20, 2014. Hollis was a kind and generous man with a quick wit and a smile for everyone he met. He lived his life ‘on his terms' and brought an encouraging word to many. Hollis was born in Little Rock to the late Reuel and Minnie Bain. He graduated from Little Rock Central High. He loved to roller skate as a young man and could be found at Troy's Roller Dome almost seven nights a week. It was there that he met Shirley Whitten who he later married. They were blessed with a daughter, Angela. Hollis is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Lonnie Bain and Carl Bain. Hollis joined the Army at the age of 21 to serve his country and was stationed in both Hawaii, where he attended radio school, and in Germany, where he became a message clerk as well as working border patrol. After an honorable discharge, he began work in Kansas City with Deluxe Check printers. He developed expertise in the printing business and worked in it for over 35 years, in a variety of positions from sales to Production Manager. He also spent some time selling real estate but always returned to his favorite work, printing. After age 40, Hollis liked to classify himself as a ‘gypsy' and loved time on the California beaches. He also enjoyed time with his best friend, Tommy Starks, hunting and fishing. Hollis accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at age 24 in Little Rock's First Baptist Church. He loved talking with people and was a good listener too. He especially liked to learn about others' families and share about his. He shared many stories of his daughter, Angela, and son-in-law, Tim but most enjoyed the pleasure of bragging on his grandchildren, Victoria, Lydia and Luke. He told everyone how proud he was to have such a loving family who loved the Lord. He always took time to listen and play games with his family; He was the champion at checkers and pool. Hollis will always be remembered for his optimistic attitude, generosity, and encouraging words to ‘plan your work and work your plan'. He inspired his family that no dream was too big to follow and supported them through his words and actions. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends but we are thankful to know that we will see him again one day in heaven. The family would like to express a special word of thanks to the staff of Gentiva Hospice and of Valley Ranch Nursing Home. Many of you became dear friends and so lovingly cared for Hollis.
