James Selwin Hays, 77, of Maumelle, passed away on Sunday, November 30, 2014 at home, surrounded by his family. Born in Little Rock to Selwyn and Nola Garner Hays, he was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and retired from Arkla Gas. James was a Deacon and Sunday School teacher at First Baptist Church in Maumelle. He was a 32nd degree Mason, treasurer of the Mary Williams Lodge and a member of the Gideons. Preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Donnie Hays, he is survived by his wife of 55 years, Nora Lee Hays; son, Jim Hays and wife, Beth, daughter, Juanita Birch and husband, Victor, and son, Bob Hays and wife, Martha; sister, Billie Workman; brother-in-law, Glen Kuykendall; and five grandchildren, Laura Deem (Zac), Sarah Hays, Drew Hays (Ashley), Meagan Hays and Bethany Hays. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 4 from 6-8 p.m. at Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Ct. (NW corner I-630 and Barrow Rd.). Services will be Friday, December 5 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Maumelle, followed by interment with Military Honors at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery in North Little Rock.
