Artie Elizabeth Straughn, 93 went home to be with Jesus on January 30, 2014. She was born to Marion and Rena Murphy in Drew County on December 6, 1920. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fay L. Straughn and son, Olieth. She is survived by four grandsons Marty (Robin), Billy (Nancy), Randy (Phyllis) and Dennis (Diane), four sisters, Wynona Turner of Pioneer, La., Beth (Larry) Glover of Maumelle, Bobbie (Lester) Jeffers of Mississippi and Judy Hewitt of Monticello; two brothers, Jack Murphy of Little Rock and Wendell (Becky) Murphy of Louisville, Ky.; nine great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Artie, or "Miss Artie" as she liked to be called, was small in stature, but had a big heart filled with abundant love for her family, friends and everyone she met. Her love and devotion to God and her church were unconditional. All through her journey in life she experienced a multitude of extreme difficulties – loss of her husband in World War II – loss of her only child - and many serious health problems. Yet, she maintained an inner spirit and determination to show love, help others, and touch everyone's life in a positive way. You will be deeply missed by heavy hearts that are consoled by knowing you are now in a better place. Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday, February 2, 2014 at Stephenson-Dearman Chapel with burial in Lone Sassafras Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at the Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to First Baptist Church, 413 North Main, Monticello or Lone Sassafras Cemetery, c/o Clarence Wells, 931 Lone Sassafras Rd, Monticello, Ark. 71655.
