Doris Lorene King Taylor

Doris Lorene King Taylor, daughter of James Elijah and Ethel Mayme Rackley King, was born June 29, 1925, in Pottsville, Arkansas. Lorene graduated from Pottsville as salutatorian of her class in May, 1943 and from Arkansas State Teachers College in Conway in August 1946 with a BSE in Vocational Home Economics. Lorene began her teaching career at North Little Rock Junior High School. While attending ASTC, she met the love of her life, Wilford Wasson Taylor, and they were married on December 20, 1946. In June, 1949, they moved to Hoxie where she taught school for 37 years; 30 years as the home economics teacher. In 1986, Lorene was named "Teacher of the Year" by the Arkansas Association of Vocational Home Economics Teachers. The Hoxie Chapter of Future Homemakers of America earned many chapter and individual awards. Lorene retired from teaching in 1987. Following her retirement, Lorene began china painting. She devoted many hours creating beautiful pieces which she willingly shared with friends and family. Lorene was an active member of the Hoxie United Methodist Church serving in many leadership positions. Lorene and Wilford were married just two weeks short of 60 years before Wilford preceded her in death on December 6, 2006. Lorene transferred to the "Church Triumphant" on January 30, 2014. She is survived by daughter, Sandra Thresher of Jonesboro, and sons, Jerry of Burke, Virginia, and Tim of Hoxie, two sisters, Myra Nell Leek of Dumas and Annie Belle Page of Conway; six grandchildren, John Taylor, Vancouver, British Columbia, Jamie Taylor Crowley, Martinsburg, W.Va., Brian Acre, Hoxie, Leah Taylor Williams, Bentonville, Mark Taylor, Cordova, Tenn., and Chan Workman, Paragould,; eight great-grandchildren, Allie Thresher Bartlett, Michael Workman, Kylie Welch, Jonathan Acre, Taylor Crowley, Amelia Williams, Sophia Williams, and Katie Acre. Visitation will be Sunday, February 2nd from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Hoxie United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be Monday, February 3rd at 10 a.m. at the church under the direction of Cox-Fears Funeral Home in Walnut Ridge with Bonda Moyer officiating. Burial will follow in the Smithville Cemetery. Pallbearers: Jim Green, Terrell Downing, Larry Jones, Jon Walter, David Belk, and Jim Barksdale.
