Louis "L.D." Rogers Sr., 90, of Mayflower passed away Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014. L.D. was born Nov. 4, 1923 in Beebe, Ark. to the late Homer and Lovely Lou (Gordon) Rogers. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Walter, Homer and Dave Rogers; sisters, Laconia Gentz, Lottie Owens, Otis Dunaway, Louise Rogers Hitner, and Mary Allen. L.D. was of the Baptist Faith and a veteran of the United States Army and served during World War II. During his younger years L.D. owned a Dry Cleaners for a short time and also drove a street car in Little Rock. He later started his own excavating and demolition company, L.D. Rogers & Son, which was later changed to Rogers & Dillon. L.D. was owner and operator of his company up until his retirement. He was once a candidate for Constable for the Hill Township. L.D. was a member of the Little Rock Shriners, a thirty second degree Mason, member of the Scottish Rites, 1004 Elks Lodge in North Little Rock, American Legion and the Shriner Mounted Patrol. He loved animals, especially cattle and horses; his most favorite of all was his dog, Booger. L.D also enjoyed watching CNN news. He always looked forward to going to the Mayflower Diner every Thursday and spending time there with his special friend, Jimmy Green. L.D. was a very tenderhearted person who loved his family very much and was always there to help them any way he could. L.D. is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Verda Mae Rogers; his children, Annice Dillon (Kevin), Anita Edward, Danny Rogers (Vicki), all of Mayflower, and Margaret Connor (Louis) of Bryant; grandchildren, Hope Lewis (Jim), Missy Avalos, Bobby Edward (Nancy), Natasha Rodarte, Justin Dillon (Donna), Chris Shaw (Natasha), Taylor Rogers (Cody), Carol Marshall, all of Mayflower, and Kim Connor Hamby of Bryant; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and one sister-in-law, Marie Rogers Kidd. Funeral services are 1 p.m. Monday Feb. 3, 2014 at Roller-McNutt Funeral in Conway, with Bro. Terry Turner officiating. Burial will follow at Mayflower Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Bobby Edwards Jr., Bobby Edwards III, Justin Dillon, Nathaniel Welling, Jace Lewis, and Cody Williams. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
